Nothin' Up My Sleeve: Why Philosophy is Important

Well said! I might actually take this a step further and say that I am striving to ALWAYS be in the place "between experience and explanation". I would call this the state of BEING. Where rather than experiencing the world, I am an active participant in the world. And rather than trying to explain the world I'm experiencing or being a part of, I'm simply accepting and appreciating it for what it is. The weather is cold; there is traffic; my family is....unique; the sunset is wonderous. Even in the "worst" of what every day life has in store, there is beauty that can be appreciated. I'm striving to get to where I can appreciate all things for what they are all the time, and to simply be a part of the life that is around me.

All to often my intellect gets in between me and life, trying to interpret things, as you say. My intellect becomes a barrier that "protects" me from being embarrassed or hurt. But that barrier prevents deep and meaningful interaction between me and other people, and between me and the world around me. Perhaps humanity is simply accepting the embarrassment or hurt, or wonderfully intimate connections, that may come from just BEING all the time.
